A Thank You Note to Shu Min

Thank you Shu Min for showing us what kind of MP we have in Parliament.

In trying to defend your uncultured rant, MP Wee has shown that he is not only out of sync with reality but also has no inclination to serve the people, which is the primary function of MP.

In his two so-called public apologies, MP Wee merely apologized for the insensitive words both of you used and displayed no signs of empathy, not to talk about compassion, for the people.

Age discrimination is a true fact, at least for the non elite, in Singapore. It is not an unsurmountable problem for the government to solve and MP can play a role here.

Shu Min, you can choose to be an uncaring elite for all we care, but as MP, Mr Wee does not have that luxury. He is first and foremost a representative of the people and has the duty to make things better for us. If he is not interested in helping people then he is not suitable to be an MP.

Also, Shu Min thank you for reminding us of the wise words of Theodore Roosevelt, ' .... to educate a person in mind and not in morals is to educate a menace to society.'

Oh for fuck's sake. She's 18, and her father is in his forties or fifties. There is a difference.

I do not let my daughters speak for me and I expect that they will have much less sympathy an a number of strange attitudes simply because they have less experience that I have.

If you don't like what Shu Min said and you think the father should be punished, then make sure people vote against the father next election.

It's easier to quote someone who you think has bearing on this rather than to think for yourself, eh.

The reality is that Shu Min's youth allowed her to give some people a wake-up call.

Life is hard. I grew up in a working class family in Australia without a mother. I now live and work in Silicon Valley on high-tech products and am able to send my daughters to college. I am also in my fifties but have no worries about losing my job (if I do I will just get another).

All of that came about because of hard work and never expecting a handout from the government (although I did get a free education in Australia, but that was something that just happened, not something I expected).

A prudent person plans for the future and doesn't sit around lamenting the bad luck that has befallen them!

loki,

Please teach me how we can vote against an MP in a Singapore democracy , where an MP is part of a GRC which may not be contested.
